big moon, and rocks to hold you - 35mm film
In March, two of my most beloved friends traversed south from the Kenai Peninsula to spend some days plopping through the high desert (Newe Sogobia & Yuhaaviatam/Maarenga’yam lands) with my partner and I. We hot tubbed late into the night and watched the full lunar eclipse, we clambered on rocks and basked in expanse, we noodled all together about their immanent wedding on the summer solstice. Blessing to the moon and the sky, that we can look up with awe and be reminded to gaze upon each other, and all of creation on this planet, with the same wonder with which we behold an eclipse. May repetition not taint our delight, may intentional, heart-awakening awe be a repetitive prayer, the noticing a prayer. Blessing to the desert, the big and the small, spirits and textures and intricacies of what continues to confound us as mysterious, magical, miraculous, in plain, wide-and-wilder-land sight.
