tattoos; 2024 archive

this is an archive of old pieces! please wander to my tattoo journals to explore relevant recent work <3 but have fun in this time travel too!

35mm film from the “Kennedy River” on Toquaht land (Vancouver Island, BC) in the summer of 2023. May these words and embodied markings be in service to all wild waters, those we are sustained and nurtured by, and those we tend to within ourselves - for the hope of the world we dream of and know is possible.

In this final week before I turn 31, I have been mulling over an articulation that tattooing is an art of folk craft, folk magic, and village care; and I think that distillation is largely informed by the work I made in 2024 and this first half of 2025. It’s not a new thought, to me or to anyone else, (indigenous people around the world have known it forever) but it has felt potently true as clients/friends and I have lovingly ushered tattoos from the depths and onto skin, as we have stared together stunned at what revealed itself, as clients have cried with joy as they look at their new tattoo in the mirror for the first time. “It has always been there.

It feels vulnerable and incredible to create a post that clearly puts on display my growth as an artist over the course of a year. Uploading these images, I feel pride and sweetness at the timeline of 2024, at my uncovering of a stronger visual voice in my work that became more and more honed as the year went on. There are obvious thematic, symbolic, and spiritual through lines that have been there since the start of my tattooing in 2018, but I feel like 2024 was the year where a deeper sense of movement and precision broke through, where I felt foundationally confident when I would talk to clients about what I specialize and excel in. To begin 2024 with a full body dot work river flow set the tone for the rest of the year, and my sense of detail in my mountain and psychedelic florals bloomed in the summertime.

Usually in a share like this I would name each client and their story, how long each piece took and where the client traveled from, however, it’s already so bloody long, and sometimes you have to choose what is most essential for the essence of the thing. All of these pieces are archived on my Instagram (if it’s still live when you are reading this, if not, oh well!) and if you really want to read more you can head over there, or send me a voice note on Speakpipe to ask details about a specific piece.
